More than 150,000 complaints were received to Ofcom about TV shows.

Totals don't include BBC complaints, which are handled by the corporation.

Ofcom's head of audience protection said: "Only five TV series account for 80% of all complaints.

"Social media, a digital water-cooler, affects complaint numbers.

These volumes highlight the British public's passion for TV and radio, and how vital they are to our culture.

2021's most-complained-about TV shows

1. GMB, 8 March

54,595 grievances

Piers Morgan provoked anger when he suggested he didn't trust Meghan's Oprah interview statements about feeling suicidal as a royal.

Meghan protested to ITV about the host's comments on mental health, so he departed.

ITV2, 6 August Love Island

24,921 grievances

Most complaints cited Faye Winter's treatment of Teddy Soares.

Winter's expletive-filled outburst prompted 24,921 complaints.

The duo fought after seeing a clip of Soares telling eliminated candidate Clarisse Juliette he liked her.

3. Celebrities: Your face? 5.

7,125 grievances

Viewers protested about comments made about celebrities in the two-part programme "The facial faults of the famous."

Simon Cowell, Charlotte Crosby, and Lizzie Cundy were criticised.

Channel 5 cancelled the show when Charlotte said she was "appalled" and asked not to appear.

ITV's Oprah with Meghan and Harry, 8 March

6,486 grievances

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex spoke emotionally about leaving royal duties for California.

Prince Harry said his father and brother were "stuck" in the Firm.

Meghan revealed she felt suicidal as a royal and claimed Kate made her cry before her wedding to Harry, contradicting media reports to the contrary.

During the two-hour presentation, which aired while Prince Philip was recovering from heart surgery, the couple accused an unnamed monarchy member of doubting Archie's skin colour before he was born.

The Royal Family issued a statement after the show aired, saying "recollections may vary."

Piers Morgan was criticised for urging Charlotte Hawkins to stand so viewers could see her skirt.

Piers then spat with Alex Beresford over Meghan and Harry's Oprah interview, causing him to storm off set live on-air.

Morning news show host Richard Madeley tore up Dr. Hilary Jones' bogus COVID pamphlet after receiving thousands of complaints.
